Archive: 2001 Racing Season
Late in the racing season, Matthew
Crowell began racing Junior Kage Karts. Our first goal was quickly set
- do not get lapped. We only ran a few races and we quickly learned
that we had a lot to learn!
Matthew was only nine years old,
yet he was racing against some kids that started when they were five.
With his father's and grandfather's love of racing, it was not surprising
that Matthew was attracted to this sport. He had tried youth football
and baseball to find himself sitting on the bench. Even at such a young
age, it was clear that coaches wanted to win and only those with natural
talent would be playing.
So, we put Matthew in control.
He chooses if and when he races. He can choose to sit on the sidelines
and watch or he can be in the game every time there is a race.
